Capital City Rat Rescue runs a closed rescue. What this means is that the public is generally not allowed into the rescue. This means that you can not come and play with the rats and pick out your rat for adoption. I will work with you via correspondence and screening to pick out rats that are perfect for your personality and your situation. My success rate at placing rats into permanent homes is very good.
So why do I run a closed rescue? There are two reasons for this. The first reason is for the health and safety of the rats in my care. There are many pathogens in the small animal world that can be deadly to rats. These pathogens can be carried by other small animals who never present signs of being sick from these pathogens. This includes animals in pet stores as well as the animals in your home. It is very expensive to treat an outbreak in a rescue as it quickly spreads and can become an epidemic.
The second reason is that the rescue is run out of my home. For the privacy and safety of my family I do not allow the general public into my home.
The rescue is housed in the living room of my home so the animals in my care are exposed to constant interaction with my family and are exposed to the normal sounds of a household such as the TV, Doorbell, Dogs, Dishes etc. I will typically meet an adopter at a neutral location off premises for the adoption of their new rats.
